Comcast won't help you if you buy your own modem? anyone else?

we had to replace our docsics 2 modem with a 3 because comcast said the 2 were outdated and obsolete. i bought the same one they are willing to rent to me but we are still having the same up and down problem.

now, they say since we don't rent it from them they can't fix our problem remotely because but will have to send a technician. that has a 9-10 day waiting list. they of course will rent us the same model we just bought for 10 bucks a month or so.

anyone having this problem?
